πͺπ― Everyone has a WINDOW OF STRESS TOLERANCE which constantly grows or shrinks depending on what life is throwing at you.
Ideally, you want to sit in the middle Optimal Zone as much as possible, where youβre stimulated just the right amount to handle everything in a calm, controlled way.
This isnβt a stress-free zone by any stretch (because stress has its advantages in certain circumstances), but not to the point where your performance diminishes (i.e., you become Hyper-Active).
When you slip out of the Optimal Zone, you can either flip to be Hyper-Active or flop to be Hypo-Active.
π | Hyper-Active: think panic, anxiety, canβt calm down, racing heart, quick breathing (hyperventilation). |
π | Hypo-Active: think depressed, unmotivated, canβt get out of bed, slow laboured breathing (hypoventilation). |
The key is to learn what grows and shrinks your window β everyoneβs different but there are some broad categories to consider. Including…
πββοΈ | Exercise |
π§ | Recovery |
π€ | Sleep |
π§ | Mindset |
π« | Breathing |
π₯ | Diet/Hydration |
π | Social Connection |
π₯Ά | Stress Inoculation Training |
So how wide can you grow your window?
